$8.5 Million Settlement for Baby Born with Cerebral Palsy
Corboy & Demetrio obtained a settlement of $8.5 million against a drug company, hospital and obstetrician who were sued on behalf of a 15-year-old boy for injuries he sustained at birth. During labor, the plaintiff was given a paracervical block (PCB), in which a local anesthetic is injected by needle, near the cervix to lessen labor discomfort. After receiving a third injection, the fetus suffered severe bradycardia - a dangerously low heart rate - which resulted in a significant loss of oxygenated blood to the brain.
