$10 Million Jury Verdict for Spinal Cord Injury
A Cook County Illinois jury returned a medical malpractice verdict in excess of $10 million in favor of a young man who was left a quadriplegic by the negligence of the doctors and hospital where he was treated. An immobilization device was removed prematurely by a trauma surgeon for a cervical spine injury and a soft cervical collar was placed on the patient. Then, two days later, nursing staff removed the soft cervical collar resulting in injury. The verdict was one of the ten largest medical malpractice verdicts in the history of Illinois at the time it was rendered.
