Corboy & Demetrio Obtains $2.85M Settlement for Family of Young Bicyclist Killed by Van
Corboy & Demetrio has obtained a settlement of $2.85 million on behalf of the Estate of a 12-year-old boy, who was struck and killed by a Canadian National Railway Company/Illinois Central Railroad Company service van driven by William Thigpen, III, on July 21, 2015. Both CNR and the driver were named as defendants in the lawsuit, which was filed in Cook County Circuit Court.
The boy was riding his bicycle across Western Avenue in Olympia Fields in the middle of the block in an area without traffic control signals. The boy did not have permission to cross the street without adult supervision and he was not wearing a helmet.
The settlement was obtained on Nov. 3, 2017.
