Corboy & Demetrio Files Lawsuit in Death of Off-Duty Chicago Officer Killed in Police Chase

Corboy & Demetrio has filed a wrongful death lawsuit on behalf of the Estate of a 42-year-old Chicago Police Office rwho was killed while driving home from work by a van that was being chased by Calumet Park Police on March 14, 2014.

A 10-year veteran of the CPD, the officer was killed when the van rammed into his vehicle on the city’s South Side, and was just 15 minutes from his home.

The lawsuit, filed by the officer’s wife on Tuesday, names as Defendants the Village of Calumet Park and Jerald Nettles, the police officer who was pursuing the van, and alleges that both acted “with utter disregard for the safety of others.”

Corboy & Demetrio attorneys Michael K. Demetrio and Thomas A. Demetrio represent the the officer's estate.

The chase began when the van rolled a stop sign and ended in the death of the officer who earned 87 awards during his career with the CPD.

Corboy & Demetrio also obtained an order to preserve evidence in the case, including the audio communications of the Calumet Park Police.
