Minds Matter Chicago to Receive Thomas A. Demetrio Award of Excellence
The Thomas A. Demetrio Award of Excellence, created and supported by Thomas A. Demetrio through Lawyers Lend-A-Hand to Youth, will be given to the Chicago chapter of Minds Matter, a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to help high school students from low-income families prepare for college success through mentoring and tutoring.
“The good work that the dedicated volunteers at Minds Matter perform is having a profound effect on the lives of Chicago’s underprivileged children, and so it is very deserving of this award,” Thomas Demetrio said.
Minds Matter students work with their mentors.
Demetrio created the Lawyers Lend-A-Hand Award of Excellence in 1994 while he was President of the Chicago Bar Association. Each year, he funds the award, which recognizes outstanding youth mentoring programs.
The Lawyers Lend-A-Hand to Youth Program, which administers the award, was created by The Chicago Bar Association and the Chicago Bar Foundation in 1995 in dedication to the lasting memory and generosity of the Honorable Judge Abraham Lincoln Marovitz.
