$1.3 Million for Standing CTA Bus Passenger Injured
The Chicago law firm of Corboy & Demetrio has obtained a settlement of $1.3 million on behalf of an injured 35-year-old Chicago woman who was a passenger aboard a CTA bus which braked abruptly, causing the woman to suffer a broken hip. The CTA bus was traveling south on LaSalle Street in Chicago’s Loop when it was cut off by a right-turning taxicab, forcing the bus driver to make a hard stop, causing the woman, who was standing in the aisle, to slip and fall.
Daniel Kirschner, a partner at Corboy & Demetrio, said, “The CTA, which is a common carrier, owed our client the highest duty of care in the defensive driving of its bus, which it failed to perform in this case.”
Case # 2011L4483; Settled on May 21, 2015 and approved by the CTA Board on June 10, 2015.
