02.20.2025

Corboy & Demetrio has launched its first-ever podcast, Masters of Trial Law.  In Episode One, “Aviation Disasters, Lawsuits and the Crash of American Airlines #5342,” Thomas A. Demetrio and three of his partners discuss the firm’s extensive experience in the area of aviation litigation.

Thomas and his firm have represented families of passengers and crew in nearly every major aviation catastrophe over the last 50 years.

The interview-focused show will be hosted by Corboy & Demetrio attorneys who will analyze current events relating to safety, negligence, liability, and damages.

This first episode focuses on Aviation Disasters, including the Crash of American Airlines #5342 and was hosted by Corboy & Demetrio Partner Bill Gibbs.

The aviation panel includes Military and Aviation Attorney Ken Lumb, Managing Partner at Corboy & Demetrio. Ken is a U.S. Veteran who obtained the rank of Major in the US Army’s Judge Advocate General’s Corps.  His military career spanned 20 years of active and reserve duty.

The third panelist is Partner Francis Patrick Murphy, who is also a longtime aviation master.

In the first episode, the lawyers discuss their work on behalf of families in the crash of American Airlines #191, United #232, USAir #427, singer Jim Croce’s plane and others.

In addition, Thomas Demetrio discusses his work that resulted in two recording-setting settlements for the death of a single passenger killed in a domestic plane crash: $25.25 million, which broke C&D’s previous record of $25 million.

“You want a law firm that's going to acquire every nickel you know each client is entitled to, and the litigation process also takes its time. I'm not going to say the wheels of justice move slowly but it's a process,” Demetrio said.

“And so I think families (in the D.C. crash) will come to realize that once they've hired a law firm, they can let go and grieve properly knowing their lawyers are doing all the right things on their behalf,” he added.
