$4 Million Settlement for Cerebral Air Embolism
Cook County Circuit Court Judge Jeffrey Lawrence's approval of a settlement of $4 million for the medical malpractice lawsuit filed by a 54-year-old man against Loyola University Medical Center and Loyola University Physician Foundation was featured in the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin. The plaintiff was represented by the law firm of Corboy & Demetrio.
In early 2005, the plaintiff underwent a brain MRI which revealed a large right cerebral aneurysm. In August, 2005, he was admitted to Loyola University Medical Center for treatment. On August 29, he underwent a cerebral angiogram of the right middle cerebral artery to map the arteries in preparation for surgery to bypass or clip the aneurysm. Shortly after the procedure, the plaintiff had a seizure. An emergency CT scan showed a right middle cerebral artery air embolism. the plaintiff now suffers from left-sided weakness and cognitive changes. He is unable to return to work.
