U.S. Senator Dick Durbin Appoints Philip Harnett Corboy, Jr. to Screening Committee
Philip Harnett Corboy, Jr., a Chicago personal injury lawyer at the Chicago-based law firm of Corboy & Demetrio, was recently appointed by U.S. Senator Dick Durbin to a bipartisan screening committee to assist the Senator in selecting Northern District Federal District Court Judges, U.S. Attorneys, and U.S. Marshals for the state of Illinois. The committee will be chaired by former federal judge and Illinois Congressman Abner Mikva.
Senator Durbin remarked:
Making recommendations to the White House on U.S. Attorneys, federal marshals and judicial nominees is one of the most important jobs I have as a U.S. Senator, and I am particularly pleased that these outstanding Illinoisans have agreed to advise me in selecting the best possible candidates to recommend to President Obama.
Along with other committee members, Mr. Corboy will soon review applications and make recommendations to Senator Durbin for three Federal District Court Judge positions and the U.S. Marshal position in the Northern District. Senator Durbin, will then review the recommendations, conduct interviews and submit his recommendations to the President.
"I am honored to be asked by Senator Durbin to serve on this important committee and look forward to working with the nine other distinguished and accomplished lawyers to recommend the best possible candidates to the Senator," said Corboy.
Philip Corboy, Jr. is president of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, president of the board of directors of the Legal Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago, former board member of the Chicago Bar Association and member of the Dean’s Council of DePaul University law school.
