$40 Million Record-Setting Verdict in Car-Truck Collision In a record verdict in Cook County Circuit Court, a jury awarded $40 million to a Palos Hills, Illinois, woman and her husband. Our client, represented by Thomas Demetrio, suffered massive brain damage in a car-truck collision. The collision occurred when our client was driving on a ramp leading to the outbound lanes of the Stevenson Expressway. At the same time, a 7,500-pound metal container loaded on a semi-tractor flatbed traveling in the opposite direction struck the overpass, causing the container to fall onto the expressway. A semi-tractor trailer swerved to avoid the container, struck it, crossed the median and hit the car being driven by our client. The family was awarded $34 million in compensatory damages to our client and a record $6 million for the husband’s loss of consortium claim. The verdict was paid in full.
-
$29.6 Million for Chicago Metra Crash Passenger A Cook County jury awarded a record $29.6 million to a passenger who suffered a traumatic brain injury when a Chicago Metra train crashed and derailed after entering a track crossover at 69 miles per hour (mph) instead of the posted 10 mph. Corboy & Demetrio personal injury lawyers, Thomas Demetrio and William Gibbs, represented the passenger in the two-week jury trial. The verdict is the largest in Illinois for an individual injured in a mass transit crash. The verdict was paid in full.
