Francis Patrick Murphy Obtains $1.5 Million Settlement for Family of Mother Killed in I-90 Crash
The family members of a 56 year-old woman agreed to a settlement against a leasing company and a driver for $1,579,200.00 for negligently causing the death of their mother. Margaret Lewandowski, who was en route to sing at an ordination mass at Rockford Cathedral, was killed when the van she was in was struck by a leased car driven by a 19 year-old on Interstate 90. The family was represented by attorney Francis Patrick Murphy of Corboy & Demetrio. Daimler Chrysler argued that a New York statute, which made the leasing company liable for the negligent driving of a leasee, was not applicable but the Judge ruled against Daimler. He ruled that the statute was applicable even though the car was received in Madison, Wisconsin and never driven in New York.
