Corboy & Demetrio Files Lawsuit on Behalf of Injured Passenger in Fatal Taxi Crash
Corboy & Demetrio has filed a personal injury lawsuit in the Circuit Court of Cook County on behalf of a female passenger who was seriously injured when the taxicab in which she was riding lost control and struck a building on June 27, 2011, in the Streeterville neighborhood. A pedestrian was also struck and killed by the taxi prior to it striking the building.
The lawsuit, filed against the taxicab’s owner/operator, YC10 LLC, and its driver, Yao Ofori, alleges the owner/operator and driver were negligent in driving too fast for conditions, failing to properly maintain their vehicle, and failing to control their vehicle upon the roadway.
According to Corboy & Demetrio partner, Daniel S. Kirschner, who represents the injured victim, “This was a tragedy which never should have happened. Our client was literally begging the driver to stop before he finally lost control, took one life, and left her with permanent life altering injuries. The facts underlying this lawsuit raise serious concerns about the lack of corporate responsibility which put this cab and this driver together on the roads of Chicago.”
This crash happened at the same intersection where two months earlier another pedestrian was struck and killed by a private passenger bus. In that case, Corboy & Demetrio also represents the victim’s family in a wrongful death lawsuit filed against the bus operator, Pontarelli.
