Corboy & Demetrio Medical Malpractice Attorney Lumb Discusses Avandia Lawsuit

03.2010

Medical malpractice attorney Ken Lumb discusses the diabetes drug Avandia and the possibility of lawsuits resulting from the failure of the manufacturer to disclose the cardiac risks associated with Avandia, in the article, “Diabetes drug manufacturer stands to lose about $6 billion, experts say,” published in the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin.

“There is no way Avandia consumers could be aware of all the risks they were facing when they took the drug,” said Lumb. “Drug makers do not always provide accurate information to the FDA, and it is a fallible agency."

Avandia is manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline.

“You have drug makers who are aggressively marketing products directly to consumers and those people are going in and asking for things by name, and when the doctors aren’t being warned appropriately regarding the risk, first of all, there’s no way they can appropriately counsel patients.

“Add in the pressure from a patient who is requesting a drug he or she saw advertised, it’s a recipe for disaster.”

Corboy & Demetrio, a top medical malpractice law firm that has attained more than $3 billion in settlements and verdicts on behalf of its clients, has not yet filed any lawsuits related to Avandia.
