Thomas A. Demetrio Named one of “125 Alumni of Distinction” by Chicago-Kent College of Law
Thomas A. Demetrio has been named one of “125 Alumni of Distinction” as part of IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law’s 125th anniversary celebration. Tom is a graduate of the class of 1973 and current Chair of the Chicago-Kent Board of Overseers.
In his remarks, Tom talked about two fellow alumni with remarkable accomplishments honored posthumously, Ida Platt and Judge Abraham Lincoln Marovitz.
Platt, who graduated in the class of 1894, was the first African-American woman to be admitted to the Illinois bar and only the third in the United States.
Tom also shared his admiration of the late Judge Abraham Lincoln Marovitz who served as a government prosecutor, state senator and state and federal judge, telling the crowd at the 125 Alumni of Distinction Dinner that Judge Marovitz had taught him, “Let us never forget to remember.”
