Philip Harnett Corboy, Jr. Appointed to the Equal Justice Illinois Campaign Blue-Ribbon Committee
Philip Harnett Corboy, Jr., partner at the Chicago law firm of Corboy & Demetrio, was recently appointed to the Equal Justice Illinois Campaign Blue-Ribbon Committee. Along with other Illinois leaders, including former Illinois Senate President Phil Rock and former Governor James R. Thompson, he will work to increase state funding of civil legal aid so that all Illinois residents - regardless of income - have access to the justice system.
There are less than 400 legal aid attorneys to help the more than 1.5 million Illinois residents living in poverty. Out of the ten most populous states, Illinois ranks near the bottom when it comes to legal aid funding, spending $3.5 million compared to the average $10.7 million. Because of this disparity, the Equal Justice Illinois Campaign is asking the state to do its share and increase funding for civil legal aid.
"I am honored to be appointed to the Equal Justice Illinois Campaign Blue-Ribbon Committee and look forward to working with the other committee members to increase funding to our legal aid system. Illinois' record for funding is abysmal and I hope my work on the Committee will change that," said Corboy.
