$2.6 Million Settlement in Portable Crib Death
Evenflo Company and Sears Roebuck & Company agreed to a $2.6 million settlement for the wrongful death of 8-month-old Jared Adams. The settlement is the highest paid in Cook County, Illinois, for the death of a child under the age of one year. Jared was killed in an EvenfloHappy Camper portable crib when the foldable side rails collapsed on his chest, asphyxiating him. Daniel Kirschner represented the baby’s parents. Two months after Jared’s death, Evenflo finally agreed to a recall request by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, following years of investigation into the defect. During the years which preceded Jared’s death, Evenflo was aware of at least two other deaths and numerous reports of collapse involving the Happy Camper.
