Corboy & Demetrio Files Lawsuits for 11 Passengers in Aeromexico Flight 2431 Plane Crash

08.06.2018

Corboy & Demetrio today filed six lawsuits on behalf of 11 passengers on Aeromexico Flight 2431, which crashed after an attempted take-off in a heavy storm including severe wind, rain, and hail, on July 31, 2018, in Durango, Mexico.  The aircraft, en route to Mexico City, hit the ground a few hundred yards from the runway of the General Guadalupe Victoria International Airport.

The 11 passengers represented by Corboy & Demetrio include a grandmother, her daughter and her two minor daughters; a mother and her son; a couple and their two minor sons, and another individual.   All are Chicagoland residents.

“All of the people on this flight have the right to know exactly what caused the plane to crash.  A plane just doesn’t drop from the sky because it’s raining hard,” said Corboy & Demetrio Co-founder Thomas A. Demetrio.

The firm has nearly 60 years of experience representing passengers in major airline disaster lawsuits, including the estates of several passengers killed in 1960 when a United Airlines DC-8 jet and a TWA propeller plane collided mid-air over New York, and our office has continued its representation in many commercial and private airplane crashes since that time across the country.  That record includes a record-setting settlement of $25.2 million for the death of a single passenger in the crash of US Air #427. The firm has particular experience in crashes in severe weather conditions, including American Eagle Flight 4184 near Roselawn, Indiana in 1994, killing all 68 passengers, and the helicopter crash that killed rock star Stevie Ray Vaughan and other band members in 1990.

“Weather, to some extent, is always a factor in flight operations. However, safe flight operations depend on how the airline and its pilots monitor, respond to and correct for severe weather conditions, both in the preflight and inter-flight decision making process, in order to avoid a mishap,” Partner Francis Patrick Murphy explained.

Case #s: 2018L8430, 8431, 8433, 8446, 8448  Filed in Cook Co. Circuit Court on 8-6-18.
